Rest?

I know that I usually post items that are humorous here, but today, I thought it might be a good idea to share a recent experience I had in hopes that it will help you to realize that real help is out there for whatever you are experiencing right now. We are so busy nowadays that I think we have been lulled into a constant state of chaos. I have been praying about “rest” for myself and I want to share with you how fast and wonderfully God answered that prayer. He continues to do so as I am by no means and expert on the subject.Rest in Ireland - Kilarney

A Counselor’s Question

A few weeks ago, a wise counselor asked me to consider how I “rest.” Naturally, I did what most of us would—I googled it. Sure enough, the top results pointed me to exercise, yoga, deep breathing, and other good practices.

But even as I read, I realized something was missing. My heart was still unsettled. Those things are helpful, but I knew true rest had to go deeper.

A Weekend in the Rice Fields

Last weekend, I was blessed to attend a Wild at Heart Basic event near Stuttgart, Arkansas. A group of Christian men gathered in a remote cabin surrounded by rice fields to walk through the Ransomed Heart programs.

These sessions go straight to the heart of a man and what Jesus meant when He said He came “to seek and to save that which was lost.” I was excited to be there—and I can recommend it to anyone. They even offer a free app with incredible resources and podcasts to help us walk with God and let Him heal our hearts.

The Silence I Didn’t Expect

After each session, I was ready for discussion. Instead, our leader, Geoffrey Stephens, surprised us:
“We’re taking a 45-minute covenant of silence until the next session.”

Honestly, I didn’t know what to do with that. I had been asking God about this whole “rest” question for days but had started to assume He wasn’t answering—or maybe I wasn’t praying hard enough. So, I figured I’d just deal with it later, on my own.

But for four days, the covenants of silence continued. And by the third day, I finally got it.

God used that quiet space to focus my thoughts, slow my restless mind, and show me what rest really is. It wasn’t complicated. It was actually simple—and deeply refreshing.

A New Way to Rest

Now, instead of just “unplugging” on a Saturday morning and feeling guilty for doing nothing, I’ve begun a new rhythm.

I put down my phone.
I ask God what He wants to work on in my heart.
I sit still and notice—watching the grass grow, or the leaves turn for fall.

And in that space, He’s always there, waiting. It doesn’t take long. It doesn’t feel forced. It feels like real rest.

God’s Promise of Rest

Jesus said it best:

“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”
— Matthew 11:28-30 (NIV)

My prayer is that you, too, will find this kind of rest—not just for your body, but for your soul.

👉 How do you find rest? Share your thoughts in the comments—I’d love to hear what helps you slow down and connect with God. And if you’ve never tried silence as a practice, maybe give it a shot. You might be surprised at what He whispers to your heart.

Closing Blessing:
May God bless and keep you and your family, and may He fill every second of your life with His peace.
